Ruth guides a number of functions for Outdoor School Shop. As our shipping manager, Ruth is first off responsible for ensuring that your precious package makes it to you safely! She also makes sure new products - all those back-to-school gear goodies - are received and put away in our warehouse while we wait for some lucky outdoor school family or school to order them!
Ruth's days can be quite hectic depending on our order volume. She must ensure that all requested orders are picked and packed correctly by managing shipping documents, directing package flow, and ensuring timely delivery of complete orders & returns. During bulk order fulfillment for schools and other outdoor programs and daycares, Ruth divides her colleagues into sections and takes the requested order from start to finish verifying all items in the order are correct and packed ever so carefully for shipment. Ruth works closely with Alyssa, our ODSS co-founder and bulk purchase manager, on all orders (especially bulk) to ensure the requested items going out are correct and packed and shipped according to your exact specifications!
Ruth lives in Harlem, New York. She is a single mother of 3 and in her spare time she enjoys spending quality time with her kids playing board games in the park in the beautiful outdoors. She was raised by a single father in Puerto Rico, Naguabo. She visits Puerto Rico often and enjoys the beach when she is there!
Ruth sat down with Alyssa, our bulk coordinator, to chat a little about the nuts and bolts of bulk ordering from her perspective here at the warehouse.
Alyssa: What is an example of a bulk order?
Ruth: At ODSS, we fulfill bulk orders for schools, groups and other program by sending larger quantities of similar items. Normally, I see orders for rain sets, snowsuits, mittens, and boots. We have had many different types of bulk orders, however, from toys to sunscreen, bug spray, lunchboxes and books. My favorite was one dad who ordered some of our bird whistles in bulk for party favors for his son's birthday! Who wouldn't want one of these as a favor?
Alyssa: Why do you think schools are ordering in bulk from ODSS?
Ruth: I think probably because when all children have the same gear, they have a similar experience. This is what we love the most about packing up bulk orders -- we know we are bringing value to the programs we serve! We know our team is working hard to figure out the best gear for all the programs, regions and budgets out there! We love the thought that for outdoor school, gear is their supply. Just like a pencil is considered a supply!
